Weeds or Beautiful Flowers of Faith

When I was a child, my parents would sometimes have my twin sister and myself take the place of pesticides to control the weed population in our yard. The going rate at the time, was 2 cents per weed. Definitely not a quick rich scheme, but it helped to make our piggy banks jingle a bit more. Weeds are the nemesis of a pristine yard. If not carefully maintained, they can take over a yard to the point that it is out of control.

Unfortunately, most of us have some weeds in our spiritual lives. In the Parable of the Sower – Mark 4:7 we learn “Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.” Like weeds, we know that sin is the #1 corrupt that slows and sometimes even stops our growth. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”

Did you catch that? Sin separates us from God! It could possibly be the number one reason why your prayers are not being heard. So what are we to do? The bible has an answer for that as well…

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Asking for forgiveness does not have to be a one and done effort. He is always there for us and will forgive and help us, anytime we ask. This is how we are to control the weeds in our spiritual growth and with that under control we can “Bloom Where We Are Planted”.
